More about this scene
Nine miles from York on the road to Leeds, Tadcaster was once the Roman outpost of Calcaria. Two miles to the south is the hamlet of Towton, where on 29 March 1461 a bloody battle involving an estimated 50,000 troops took place. This picture was taken from the junction with Bridge Street. Just getting into the picture on the right is the recently completed Becketts Bank.
