More about this scene

Between Whitstable and Herne Bay, this modern residential suburb and resort, with its grassy cliff-top promenade and shingle beach, was developed mainly in the years following the Second World War. As the photograph shows, it proved extremely popular with families; it also provided additional welcome income for local fishermen, one of whom is seated in the middle foreground accompanied by his faithful dog.

I was 8 in 1964 & used to Cycle down from Castle Road for a swim. I remember Tankerton for the fun of the slopes & the amazing water for swimming. I visit about twice a year. I reccommend a stay in the Marine Hotel on the road by Slopes
