I remember being at Plasterdown Camp and Tavistock I loved the rural setting with Dartmouth on our doorstep. If you wanted to go into town then it was a trip to Plymouth I had a lot of good nights there with the lads to. Having completed my National Service with the Glosters I was called for camp as part of my further commitment. Unable to go with 5 Glosters I was sent to Plaster Down Camp with HQ 129 Brigade. Having had an excellent time I decided to sign on to serve Four years with the TA.and I finished up doing twenty one years all together. The best 2 week camp I attended - great training area. Also off duty time spent in Tavistock, lovely little market town. One night attended a dance in the townhall (upstais if I remember), met a local girl there her name was (is) Sylvia, happy days.
Following my basic training at Crownhill Barracks Plymouth in June 1951 I was transferred to Plasterdown Camp to complete intensive training until October 1951. I was in the Wiltshire Regiment and as I came from Swindon, I was only one of about 4 who actually came from Wiltshire.
