Thornton Hough, The Village Smithy c.1950

More about this scene
The present smithy was built in 1905 to replace the original one, which was demolished along with several other buildings in order to create space for the erection of St George's Congregational church, which stands a little further along Neston Road on the right. The smithy still stands, and looks much now as it did here, when it was occupied by T S Williams, 'Shoeing and General Smith'.
