Esplanade Lifstan Way Junction
A Memory of Thorpe Bay.
The sign to the Car Park is the main location clue, - along with the blocky concrete structure alongside the Shelter, the sloping timber launching ramp for boats, and the beginning of the drainage-outfall's concrete protection just visible in the sand. I used to swim from here quite a lot in the late 1940's, early 1950's, as did a lot of other just pre-teen schoolchildren. There was a convenient Bus Stop adjacent on each side of the Esplanade, too, used by 3 Routes - the one from Southchurch Road down Lifstan Way, - the one to and fro along the Esplanade, - and the one which took in Wooodgrange Drive on the way past this Stop, and circled back inland along Thorpe hall Boulevard.
The sea=water swimming and paddling Pool was only 5 minutes walk away to the West, so that gave a place to paddle or sawim even at low tide.
