Share your own memories of Thorpe Hesley and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

My greatgrandmother and great great grandfather were called Sylvester and my great great grandmother was called Burgin. All 3 from Thorpe Hesley. Has anyone any connections?
In the early 80's I can remember watching a film about the Pit Ponies at Thorpe Hesley Pit. I think it was called Escape from the Dark... I've googled this and not found much. I've love to see this film again. I'm looking for a download or DVD, not VHS... Any suggestions? Thanks
I remember when I was in my last year at Thorpe Hesley Junior School when I stood up in church and did a Christmas reading. I was absolutely terrified but can still remember most of it. It began "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night, and lo...." etc. I was Kathleen Harrison in those days, I wonder if anyone remembers?
