A Memory of Tighnabruaich.
My name is David and I holidayed in Tighnabruaich in 2 of the above years with my Mum,Dad and older brother(all deceased now).I was around 10 years old and remember the trip we had from Edinburgh-train to Glasgow Central, train to Gourock, and then on to the St Columba steamer and on to tighnabruaich. We lived in a guest house that was owned by the local coal merchant Mr simpson and his family.Recently I returned to Tighnabruaich via the PS Waverley for a trip down memory lane.I was a bit tearful I must admit because I loved my holidays their but was left frustrated as I could not identify the guest house which I was so confident of doing.Obviously the trees are taller ,bushes higher and also extensions on buildings make it a different picture from the one I remember 50 odd years ago. When the Waverley tied up at the pier I remembered that when I arrived as a child there was a choir singing a song about auchanlochan ardenedenTighnabruaich Kyles of Bute.to the tune of Clementine.I remember when we left to come home, the choir sang again and I cried my eyes out.I will leave it their for the moment but I would love to hear from any one with similar memories.

The 'Mr Simpson' you refer to was my grandfather. I spent (still do) many happy holidays in tighnabruaich. My grandfather passed away when I was very young, and I don't recall them having a guest house but I can certainly make enquiries with family members if you'd like more info.
Happy to help if you need anything else
