Old Tir Y Berth
A Memory of Tir-y-berth.
My memories of Tir-Y-Berth. I was born and brought up in Tir-Y-Berth, born at 1 Tir-Y-Berth Street at my Nan's house. My nan, Jemmima Meade and grandfather Mike were lovely people. My mum had five children; Michael, Brian, Tommy, Moya and Terrance. Moya sadly died at two weeks old. My family were all miners. I'm Brian, my two best friends were Phillip Young and Graham Greenaway, we had a fabulous time growing up, we liked to go out and enjoy ourselves at Renco, Pontlottyn, checkmate Caerphilly and many other places. Tir-Y-Berth was known as little Africa owing to a few foreign families living there. Families I knew; Clements, Hynets, Parkers and Williams. Robert Clements was a friend who I got on great with his mam and dad were both lovely people. My mum, Mary Helena Mcgrane, is still with us aged 87 years old. Mrs Hynet and a few of old Tir-Y-Berth are living in the bungalows built for the older residents of 'the berth' we called it. I now live in Cefn Hengoed but have fond memories of 'the berth'. Also fond memories of Tir-Y-Berth school and shorty Thomas (headmaster), Ms Parry, Mrs Evans, Ms Stallard (now Evans) lives in Ystrad Mynach .
