Golden Memories Of Childhood Days

A Memory of Tooting.

Central Hall I believe used to house the big Saturday market!, Tooting was a Saturday trip out as a boy from Mitcham, I can vaguely remember many special days, going to the pictures, and the joke shop on the Mitcham Road.  The 80 bus or 77 to Mitcham Green, and the little Green Line bus, you had to put your hand out to stop it from near the traffic lights, wonderous days.  Yes many happy days as a boy, now I'm 60 and live in Norfolk, I wonder if I'll ever get back to see the awesome changes.

I used to live in Smallwood Rd until 1972 in the maisonettes there. We lived at number 57 I think.
I can remember a stables at the end of the road towards Garrett Lane and a small bit of overgrown land where we used to go ladybird hunting .
When they knocked these down we moved to 97 Blackshaw Rd.
My name then was Edwards.
I went to Smallwood School where my mum was a dinner lady.
Remember Mr Manning and Mrs Proust who eventually got married and Mrs Derbyshire.
Didn’t like Miss Bacchus. She used to smack our hands with a ruler.
Remember Sharon Bennett, Sharon Black, Jane Penfold and May Choudry and Jackie Lynch.
I then went to Ensham and had Miss Brown as a form teacher. She used to smoke in the geography cupboard/ room.
I married in 1987 , have 2 kids of 31 and 27 and now live in Epsom.
Does anyone else remember these times in Tooting.
