Old Police Station 1941

A Memory of Tottington.

My name is Lyndon Evans, I was born in 1941 in the Police station during the war, my brother Stuart was also born in the station in 1938.
My dad was constable Ted Evans PC1234 he was one of 4 officers based in Tottington with Sergeant Ellis in charge? I have loads of memories that I would like to share if any one is interested. My first clear memory was when I was 3 when the flying bomb hit the village opposite St Anne's destroying a whole row of large houses and the blast caused a lot of damage around the village - the ceiling came down in our bedroom, we were lucky compared to others. my dad told us how he was on duty that night and was one of the first on the sight to try and search and rescue for survivors. He knew the ones who lost thier lives personally and always found it difficult to talk about it.
I have pictures of that time that I will try to find in the family archive.
I went to Walshaw primary school (head teacher Mr Cubham) and then at 11years onto St Anne's secondary (head teacher Mr Hall), for only two years, then the new High School opened, I left in 1956 at 15. I was a bit useless at school except for art so encouraged by Mr Hope I was sent to Bolton Art College, sadly I lost contact with the village.
I have memories of every nook and cranny of Tottinton Walshaw Affetside and I'm sure some of my old freinds are still active in the village, It would be great to meet up and share reminiscences.
Some will remember my younger brothers Reg and Geoff.
Thanks for reading this, It seems very odd to be one of the old ones but it's done me good to remember the important things. Lyndon.
