Where I Was Born
A Memory of Tranmere.
I was born in 1937 in the black and white house opposite the top of North Road and on the corner of Elm Road and Greenway Road. Because it was a crosswords, there were often crashes occuring because cars came up Derby Road too fast and it had a blind corner. I remember the post office next door with Mr and Mrs Newton and their son John who went to Art School and became an artist. I often wonder what became of him. I also remember Miss Peacock next to them and then there was Miss and Mr Birss who sold vegetables, then the Healey family who were furniture removers. Happy days. Joanna

It was a Healey furniture van that took a gang of us Cubs and Scouts to camp at Troutbeck in about 1954 from St Cath`s Institute. I was briefly at St Luke`s then Mersey Park and on to the wonderful fields of Rock Ferry High.
I started writing about childhood in Tranmere...here and Grandad`s in Holt Hill...now 70000 words and I don`t want to stop! Has anyone any unpublished photos to share?
What about Hosker`s sweetshop, Tunstall`s flowers or Johnny Morgan`s ice-cream near the Regent? Yes, great days...youth!
We used to walk up the hill and get the best vanilla ice cream I have ever eaten.
I am pretty sure the little shop just along from the black horse pub was called morgans.
Am I correct
Thanks
