Gwalia

A Memory of Tresaith.

My mother, Kathleen Cook, came to work at Gwalia during the summer of 1927 visiting friends of her employer, Mrs Tinson, who drove over from Colchester in her Austin Seven. During her stay Kathleen courted for a short while one Dai Pelan, son of a local farmer, and her friend Edith later married his friend and stayed in Wales. She remembers rowing on a lake near the house, a picture of which we still have similar to the one shown here. Mrs Tinson stayed on at Gwalia for a while as her husband, a Navy Officer, had recently died of tuberculosis. Mother returned the Tinson children to Colchester on board a Black & White coach.
