High on the hill above the village from which it takes its name lies the Triscombe Stone. Some believe it is a wishing stone, but others warn that the Devil musters his spectral Yeth hounds and horsemen there. They chase across the moors in a frantic hunt and to see or even hear the hounds means certain death.
