Here the photographer looks downhill along High Street from the Church Street/Heathfield Road junction past Ye King's Head, then a commercial hotel - its ground floor was altered in the 1890s. The bakers on the right has been badly replaced in the 1960s, while further downhill on the left are the late Victorian and Edwardian shopping parades with flats over.
