More about this scene
This Neolithic long barrow was built around 2,500 BC, and the remains of 28 human skeletons were found when the site was excavated in 1854. A mile north of Uley there is another long barrow, known as Hetty Pegler's Tump. The story goes that in the 17th century the land on which this ancient monument stood belonged to a woman named Hetty Pegler, who enjoyed nothing more than to sit on the pagan grave and sing.
