In the foreground are allotments, now buried under housing. On the hill is the monument to Sir John Barrow, which is a replica of the Eddystone lighthouse. Sir John was born at Dragley Beck in the town, and went on to become Second Secretary to the Admiralty; he decided Napoleon's place of exile.
