Stephenson's Shop
In 1939 this shop was owned by Mr and Mrs Hodgson. They were relatives of Geoff Foster who still lives in the village. I last made a purchase from Annie Hodgson in 1948. I last saw the Hodgsons in 1952 on returning from service in Malaya. I love Holme and still make regular visits.

The building on the right of this picture was built as the village police station in 1915, and contained a cell.
Here Withypool is viewed from its six-arched bridge over the Barle. The squat tower of St Andrew's Church can be seen above the old Methodist chapel (centre).
The house with the two dormer windows in the roof on the left used to be The Stanley Arms, one of two hostelries that once refreshed the village.

Milton Malsor is a charming, typically English village to the south of Northampton and the M1. This picture shows the village post office, delightfully housed in a picturesque thatched cottage.
This delightful old stone pack-horse bridge has stood here since the 16th century. It is named after the Earls of Essex, who lived at Chartley Hall.
As can be seen from the two television aerials sprouting above the rooftop on the right, modern innovations in home entertainment were already making their presence felt in the early sixties.
