Caravan Rally

My parents kept our caravan at Overstone - on the far side near the lake. One year, 1953 I think, the National Caravan Rally came to Overstone and the field filled up with hundreds of caravans. I think this photo is the milk queue!

Forge Cottage (Blacksmith's Cottage)

My family and I lived in Forge Cottage (known to us as the Blacksmith's Cottage) from about 1962 to 1964, whereafter we emigrated to Canada. I have fond memories of the cottage and its low ceilings, the Aga ...Read more

The Plantations

Well not just for the 1930's but for twenty years after as well.  Memories come flooding back - not just for this picture but for Wigan itself.  I was born there in 1931 - in my grandparents home 38, Dicconson Street - a section no ...Read more

Swimming At Sallyport

The outfall from the power station made the water warm here so that we swam all year round - not for those who didn't know the currents. The visitors were amazed at our apparent hardiness, or perhaps foolhardiness.
