More about this scene

No parking restrictions were in place at this date, and the Market Place served as the bus station. Car ownership was still a minority activity, despite the number of cars we can see here. The High Street served as the main thoroughfare until the bypass, first mooted before the war, was eventually built. On the right is the Milk Bar where you could buy exotic ice creams, with Mellor's the optician's next door and Edward Martin's the jeweller's next to that; these buildings are now a pizza place, an estate agent's and an off licence respectively.

My school friend Elisabeth Stewart lived almost opposite and I remember going for a swim there with her - we both went to the school at Abbots Bromley, Wonderful times and her parents were so good to me, I remember she had an older sister - does anyone know where they are now ?

Bradley Street Infants School
I was in the same class as Christine Fox and remember that the Infants headmistress was Miss Wilcox.The other teachers we had were Mrs Turner, Miss(Sally) Harper, Mr Wrench, and Miss(Audrey) Willisford. I was browsing through some old photos and looked on my tablet for info about Bradley Street School and was surprised to find a comment from an old classmate.I went on to Alleynes Grammar School and continued into the 6th form, leaving in 1965. I am Keith Hutchinson.

Bradley St
I was born in 1953 and went to Bradley St Primary. I recall there were three girls who dressed the same; the Pearl triplets. I remember going on a school trip to Heathrow Airport and losing my souvenir cast metal model plane on the coach/bus. I cried so much that my mum had to smack my legs to shock me into stopping. The Woman Crossing The Road
The Woman in the back ground is my Auntie Gillian Dainton. She has this very picture hanging in her flat. My mother was born in Uttoxeter. Her family homes; Eaton Croft, Delves Hall, Brookside. I hope any one reading this, would be so kind, if they have any pictures of Delves Hall or Brookside to please send them to me. My mother's family managed United Dairies, (Wilts). G father John Thomas Dainton. GG father Frederick William Dainton. My mother Lavinia came to USA in 1946.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
