More about this scene

Taken only twenty miles from London, this study of the centre of this small riverside village at the end of the Victorian era serves to emphasise how such settlements within commuting distance of the capital have changed. Only the premises formerly occupied by the White Hart Inn (centre right) are still in existence. All the other buildings have been replaced by modern shops and offices, and further development is now under way.

Walton Secondary Modern School For Boys Ambleside Avenue
Are there any Waltonians who remember the this school before it was pulled down? Or who have any knowledge of the previous school it replaced in 1936 known as the Central School. Next to it was an Infants and Junior School and next to that was the « Tuck Shop » or so we called it among other names mainly because of the grumpy couple that ran it…but we must’ve been indeed were a cheeky band!

Wilton Lodge,Rydon Road
I lived in Wilton Lodge as a child with my family from 1960 to March in 1962. The year of the fantastically cold and snowy winter. The house was still in one piece although inside it had been turned into a few flats. Our flat was up one flight of stairs and the sitting room windows faced the enormous back garden. Cd Hq
This picture was taken from the front of the Civil Defence Corps HQ in New Zealand Avenue. I was a member of the Corps until it was disbanded in March 1968.

A Great Childhood In Walton
I spent my childhood in Walton to the age of 20 when I got married. I have so many happy memories that I have written my biography up to the age of 15, describing so many of the things I did with friends and the places in Walton that were relevant. One of the strangest activities was following fire engines to fires. Anyone who lived in Walton in the 50's and 60's will remember the siren that went off ...see more

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
