More about this scene

Wareham lies within earthen ramparts raised for its defence by Alfred the Great in the 9th century, for this was an important Saxon borough. The church here has a fine monument to Lawrence of Arabia sculpted by Eric Kennington, though that troubled warrior is actually buried a few miles away at Moreton.

My father and I had boats on the river for many years, on the moorings in the picture. The boat with the cabin sporting a port hole in the side belonged to me. I spent most of my childhood on Wareham's rivers, fishing and boating.
Bennetts was the Bakery in the 50's-60's, maybe longer.
