1962/63 Best Time Of My Childhood

A Memory of Warnham Court School.

I can't believe this, amazing even if the names are coincidence, I was at Warnham Court 1962-63, I can remember lots of names:

Roy Riggs, with his 'German' dictionary.
June Palmer.
John Thorp, we were always fighting.
John McDade, good footballer and cricketer.
Kathy Petty.
Helen - sorry, can't remember last name.
Eric Cook.
Stanley Babbage.
David and Janet Lever.
Keith Hollis.

and a young Indian lad whose real name I never knew (sorry) but he had the bed next to me, and we played checkers every night, he always won, we all called him 'Gunga Dinn', it was nothing racist back then, he was a friend.

But I don't remember a David and Bill Dundridge, but, and here's the amazing thing, I know a Dave and Bill Dundridge, I have known them since I was about 14 years old, still do, Dave and I are good friends, if they are the same Dave and Bill, I had no idea they were at Warnham Court, I'll have to get in touch with them (we have lost touch in the last 3/4 years) and find out.

Anyway, I arrived at Warnham Court a sad, shy, sickly and lonely boy that suffered with acute asthma.

My memories are a bit mixed, I was often very sad, I rarely got any visits or mail, and never had any pocket money sent to me, so Saturdays at the 'tuck shop' were not as much fun as it might have been, but I will always remember the 'smell' of the tuck shop.

However, as for the life I had at the school, brilliant. I never wanted to go home. Without doubt my best school days memories come from Warnham Court, with all the fresh air and sports. I found I was able to run around just like 'normal 'kids, climbing trees in the 'jungle', sneaky trips into the deer park, all this left me with a 'feel' for the countryside and outdoors, which I have taken full advantage of over the years, although I still live in London.

And I read my first book (without pictures) at Warnham Court, and my best childhood memories come from there. I did visit a couple of times in the early 1970s, and was planning a trip down memory lane this summer, but I have heard Warnham Court has been turned into a housing estate, what sacrilege, Lord Lucan would turn in his grave.

Does anyone know what may have happened to any of the 'archives' and films etc?

Vic
