Warrington, Bridge Street c.1950

More about this scene
Bridge Street is bustling with Saturday afternoon shoppers. Next to Singleton's the butchers is the Midland Bank's fine facade. The plainer frontage of Roberts' shoe shop is followed by the protruding shop windows of Hancock and Wood, shielded by sun awnings. Next comes the National Provincial Bank (now demolished). The bus on the left passes the distinctive roofline of the Howard building with its tall chimneys and imperious lions, home to Broadbent and Turners, 'General and Furnishing Drapers', and Boydell Bros, the tailors. Further down on the right a bus passes Bradley's Corner and turns into Rylands Street.
