Warrington, Manchester Road, Paddington c.1960

More about this scene
Paddington first emerged as a district in the mid 19th century as the invention of a local soap manufacturer. By the 1950s, most people associated it with the dreadful smell emerging from the infamous bone works. Doubtless that would have been one piece of Warrington's heritage which antiquarian Arthur Bennett of Paddington House would not have been anxious to preserve!
