Watchet, Swain Street 1906

More about this scene
Swain Street runs south from the harbour; it is narrow and mixed architecturally, as can be seen in this Edwardian view. The best house is on the right, slightly set back from the road and with a central niche containing an urn. Built about 1835, it became a bank, hence its current name 'The Old Bank House'. Many of the buildings here were rebuilt during the late Victorian phase of Watchet's industrial prosperity, and are not as picturesque as are some Somerset townscapes.
