Growing Up In Weaverham

A Memory of Weaverham.

I was brought up in Weaverham. We had lots of fun in Hazel Wood. I lived at 8 Meadow Road. I spent hours in the wood watching birds build their nests and watching wild life. We used to go to Owley Wood - there was an old firing range there; we used to look for spent bullets. I had a few friends, one girl I have never forgotten was Lesley Parker. We used to walk to school together when we were both at junior school. I loved that girl. I remember at junior school a teacher named Mr Bertwistle, he used to always bring us sweets in and hand them out.
I remember the headteacher, Mr Roscal, he was ok. He took my parents to Warrington when my brother was very ill with Tetnus. At the secondary school the Headmaster was Mr H.H.Christian, we used to call him Happy Harry Christian lol.
Used to love going mushroom picking and collecting chestnuts with my dad. I would love to catch up with old school friends. We used to go swimming in the Weaver and sliding down the ICI Lime pits banks on a bit of card board - that was great fun.
And scrummping apples from Mr Mosses farm - we got chased but always went back for more. My childhood was very happy. I remember mum sending me to the shops and on the way I'd ask neighbours if they wanted anything and knock and ask the the old folk if they needed anything - loved doing that. I used to work on Dones Farm, delivering milk before school, and after school I would go to Deans Farm and help out - and in the school holidays. I'd love any old school friends to email me at f1racer4157@hotmail.co.uk.

Hi many thanks for you memories, I had forgotten calling him Happy Harry Christian. I grew up in Weaverham from about 1955, until leaving in the late 60s, and have only been back about three times, because my parents moved away
