Weaverham Secondary Modern Class Of 1964

A Memory of Weaverham.

I went to Weaverham school from 1964 to 1969. I was from Sandiway and travelled each day. Looking back I realise it was a fantastic school. All the pupils in my class were good and we had some fun but caused no trouble and did well at our lessons. Mr Christian was headmaster and in my first year Roger Keys was head boy. I loved the sport and especially cricket and athletics. I remember Mr Floyd would take javelin which i liked and he would ask me to come and help teach the younger pupils when i was an older student. They were great times listening to the Rolling Stones, Motown, Beatles, Stevie Wonder. In the fifth year whenever it was football, which I didn't like, myself and Barry Clarke from my class would give games a miss and mess about around the school, sometimes just sit and read or just had fun without causing trouble, apart from the odd occasion. All the teachers were good and fair. I loved woodwork in Mr Mossop's class and metal work in Mr Lee's class (we nicknamed him chummers, as he was always chummering to himself), he retired while I was there. The school socials were the best around and always packed out. I often look back and realise we had a great childhood and I was lucky I went to Weaverham school.

Roger Keys was a friend of mine at school, I was a prefect when he was head boy. I have to thank you for the name Mr Lee, and the socials at the school, which I had forgotten
