Happy Days
A Memory of Welling.
I was born at number 4 john Newton court in 1954. Although it was a small flat which I shared with brother Terry we were lucky to have wonderful parents ( Joan & Binty ) spent every moment playing football on the green and up Danson Park . Had brilliant mates like Gary Kemp, Steve Scott, Barry Smith ,Brian Fearn , Kenny Farrah and Roland Young where are you all? Very early sixties Rolling Stones dropped into the flates where Keith Richards was seein a girl who was that ? I went to Hook Lane school then on to Elsa road I loved every minute. My mum worked in the co-op , the pictures (cinema) up bellgrove road and later the top rank bingo hall. Me and brother Terry had to go to the Salvation Army every Sunday morning. I remember buying my first record at Spencer’s , Billy J Kammer . I always had a guy outside the guy of earl pub by the football ground, after a few beers everybody seem so generous with there pennies! My old dad worked the other side of shooters hill , we had no car so he cycled to work. Later he worked at Kwikforms and the Royal Mail at crayford, sadly he died quite young so didn’t get to enjoy retirement .
Mum and dad enjoyed there days dancing at the Embassy and drinking at the rose and crown where I believe Max Brygraves mum spent many happy hours. His sister I think had a boutique called Witch Spot up by the railway station and don’t forget Roger Moore lived by Danson park. Great memories
