The limitless flat salt marshes stretch out beyond the narrow channel. These heavily-laden fishermen use shoulder yokes to carry their shellfish, much as a milkmaid carries her buckets, paddling out of the shallows from their open boats, the 'Nell' and 'Armistice'. A few modest coastal vessels still unload here but Blakeney has now given itself over to summer tourism.
