From An Ex Resident Of Hever Avenue My Reply To Peter Harris
A Memory of West Kingsdown.
Hello Peter. My name is Richard Abbott I know the Hart family very well. We lived at "Manor Woods" Hever Avenue. My dad was a serving Army Officer and bought our bungalow off a Mr Knight in 1950, after my dads posting to India The 'Harts' had another son by the name of Ian. Ther shop was called "Handy Stores". It was on our land that a Doodlebug crashed, the wing could still be seen. I went to school at Farningham. The bus we used to use was the Greenline 703, and the slower Bedford was the 478. On the main A20 was "Hever Stores", which was opposite a Transport Cafe, which had a "Blue Star Garage to its right. By the bus stop was a sweet shop. Going towards Wrotham we had the "Gamecock" Pub, then the road went up to "Portobello", School Lane on the right. Every Friday night we had a mobile cinema in the village hall at Portobello. Do I bring back memories?
