This superb leisure facility has a justifiable reputation for excellence. In 1960 it catered for dinghy sailors, swimmers, paddlers and canoeists, with plenty of room for all. In the 21st century it provides a venue for international wind- surfing championships.

I have lots of memories of the Marine Lake, fishing as a teenager on a Saturday or Sunday morning. There were many good fish in the lake but you had to watch the yachts did not run off with your line.
