West Meon Hut , West Meon , Hants
A Memory of West Meon.
My Grandparents , Ernest and Lottie ( Charlotte ) Dickaty ran the West Meon Hut from the late 1920's through the WW2. Although they had sold the pub by the time I was born I spent many happy days with my parents , grandparents going back there to reconnect with friends of theirs . It seemed a much simpler time then .
My mum used to make home made wines , beers etc and we used to go onto farmland ( believe it was owned by Peter Silk ) and pick elderberries , hawes , sloes anything my mum could use . Picnic on Tisted common , visit the old gypsy church which if memory serves me correctly housed about 10 people.
My Mums best friend , Elizabeth , lived opposite the pub at the garage , I remember she was a few years younger than Mum but they stayed friends even after several house moves both ending up living in Portsmouth .
My Grandmothers best friend, Lillian Bulpitt lived in Gastons Lane in Alresford. and we used to spend weekends there , she had an old air raid shelter in her yard , which as kids we loved to play in .
Lots of memories !
