More about this scene

Caption for West Stafford, Thatching c1960: The art of thatching is still much in demand throughout Dorset. Local thatch was originally made of wheat, rye or barley straw, but now longer- lasting reed is often used. The purpose of the covers on the chimneys is to prevent sparks igniting the roof.
