More about this scene
Moving north, deeper into the Vale of Taunton Deane, we reach the cob or earth wall country, where whitewashed rendered cottages with thatched roofs become common. There is still plenty of stone, although not the wonderful golden oolitic limestones from Ham Hill and the far south of the county; here we have the Blue Lias, a thin limestone which can only be used for rubble walling.
