Glentworth Bay is pictured just five years before the causeway was built, creating Marine Lake. In the far distance on the left you can just glimpse the low-water westward jetty of Birnbeck Pier. This was built so that steamers could berth at all states of the tide. It was demolished the same year that this picture was taken.
