I used to go to Vicky Burkes quite a lot with Norman Atkinson, Ron Jones and Malcolm Allport. We were taught to dance in the first half , then across to the pub ,then back to see if we cud walk a girl home, most times we were unlucky as no cars then just our bikes . We all went to Kneller school

I'm not sure how this website works so I hope this ends up in the correct place. Someone mentioned a murder in Whitton. I remember it well. It must have been in about 1959 or 1960. I was at secondary school. A young man who was mentally ill, murdered his mother and father with a bayonet and then fled. He was found wandering along the railway line in a confused state. My father was in the police at the time.

I lived above Mr Gilbert's the Wet fish Shop in December 1969, when my daughter was born in February 1970 I used to buy lots of bits from the Donkey Shop, also there was a lovely Baby Shop, Clark's Shoe Shop, Toy Shop & a Cycle Shop. I lived in Kneller Road from 1972, and rememeber the Ark pet shop, and The Donkey shop. I used to play most evenings in Murray Park, and remember that the "finger of fudge" advert was filmed just opposite Murray Park, a friend called Ashley was the little boy opening the wrapper. As a teenager, worked in Tescos, and Coombes Beakery, which sadly is no longer trading in the High St.
