More about this scene

This is the magnificent ash tree under which the ageing John Wesley, founder of Methodism, preached his last sermon on 7 October, 1790. He said of the event 'I stood under a large tree and called most of the inhabitants of the town . . . it seemed as if all that heard were almost persuaded to be Christians'. The tree was struck by lightning in 1927 but another has replaced it.

When I was born in 1949, my family were living in the above referenced house. Does anyone have any history on these houses, and perhaps who now owns 1?

Early Learning
I lived at Winchelsea Beach and attended Winchelsea school which was behind the Church.This was from 1925 to 1930 when my family moved to Eastbourne as a result of the 1928 disaster when the sea breached the shingle and flooded the whole area.The names of the streets were not known to me at that age but I do remember the scenes in these pictures. Bill Winchester. Now 94.

Spring Steps Winchelsea
We used these steps up to Primary School and back twice a day 1955-1961. We lived at the bottom of the Strand Hill where my Mother still lives today. I still use the steps when I am there. I adore being in Winchelsea and truly hope to live there again one day. Unfortunately the Well does not look so beautiful these days but it still brings back many good memories for me. Beautiful Historic Winchelsea

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
