More about this scene
The 19th-century entrepreneur Richard Rigg had this spacious hotel constructed by the local Pattinson building company. It stands on the north side of what is now the main A591, opposite the railway station. The hotel was opened on 12 May 1847, the year of the arrival of the railway and the start of mass tourism in Windermere.
