More about this scene

Windmill Hill is near Herstmonceux. It is a post-type windmill where the body is turned to the wind by means of a long tailpole. The front and sides of the mill body and the roundhouse roof are clad in sheet iron. It is the tallest windmill of this type in Sussex. Built in 1814, it ceased working in 1893, when the sails were taken off. There was a bakery by the mill house. The mill is now being restored by its owner. Iron electricity poles line the road; they are of a type only seen in this part of Sussex.
