More about this scene
In the middle-distance are Wivenhoe's oyster- sheds: they were built on stilts so that the tide could feed the oysters in their beds underneath. The site is now occupied by Wivenhoe Sailing Club. The pointed roof on the other bank belongs to St Laurence's Church, Rowhedge, built in 1838 as a pastiche of York Minster's chapterhouse.
