Happy Days In Woodford

A Memory of Woodford Green.

Born in Woodford Wells in 1946 and lived on the High Road a few doors away from The Travellers Friend and the Simmonds Art Shop where my good friend Roger Simmonds lived. We had a wonderful childhood, we shopped for sweets in The Milk Tray a small sweet and tea shop where later my mother worked for a Mrs Romain and her son Duggie.
I went to school at Woodford Green Primary where my first teacher was Mrs Cat. We were very lucky to have lots of forest and green areas to play and often played in Knighton Woods. It was a special time in my life that I will never forget.

I was not born in Woodford but lived there in a house backing up to Knighton Woods and attended Primary School in a building next to or behind All Saints Church on the Green. I remember we would walk to The Milk Tray at lunchtime. Happy days indeed!
Hi Carole, that school was I believe Avon House school there was a path that led from the main building passed the tennis courts to another building where the juniors were schooled. That path went passed the bottom of my garden. We used to chat to the children as we had a swing on the big oak tree there. We also loved playing in Knighton woods on the rocks by the lake.
Hi carol the school that you mentioned was Knighton preparatory school which closed in 1957 I believe and was run by Miss Lavers and Miss Friend .I went on to attend Woodford Green prep(the red school) and have many happy memories of my time there ,hope this information helps Elizabeth Loftus
Hi Carole, I was reading your comment as I shopped. I work at Redschool both my boys attended recently and I am so lucky to live at the bottom of The Glade opposite Knighton Woods. You should check out the Redschool website and join as an Old Red!!! The school loves to hear from past pupils. https://www.wgprep.co.uk/611/welcome-old-reds
