More about this scene
Taken from the Westside, this picture reveals that a fair is taking place on Pitchcroft to accompany the Regatta. It was in 1910, possibly on this same occasion, that a Bleriot aeroplane took off from Pitchcroft - the first powered plane seen in the city. Sadly, poor crowd control led to the death of a woman who got too close to the propeller. In 1911, a balloon took off from Pitchcroft during celebrations for the coronation of George V, and even today people taking scenic flights with Worcester Balloons still start their journey on Pitchcroft.
