More about this scene
Yeovil is by far the largest town in south Somerset. First chartered in 1209, its major industry was glove-making, using local sheepskin; Westland Aircraft is now the most important industry in this greatly-expanded town. The centre has suffered extensive redevelopment, nowhere more so than in this part of Middle Street; not a single building shown in the photograph survives, and the left side is now the shopping centre named Glovers Walk.
