FAMILY TREE
MY GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER LIVED AT 9 SILVER ST.HIS DAUGHTER ELIZABETH WAS BORN THERE IN 1846. 5 YEARS AGO I VISITED THE SHOP WHICH STANDS THERE NOW AND THEY TOOK ME ROUND THE PREMISES AND SHOWED ME WHERE THE FAMILY WOULD LIVE BACK THEN. THE ORIGINAL POLISHED WOOD STAIR BANISTER WAS STILL THERE, AND I RAN MY HAND OVER THE PLACE WHERE MY ANCESTORS RAN THEIR HANDS, AND IT WAS VERY MOVING FOR ME.I WAS SO GLAD THE HOUSE WAS STILL THERE.
JAMES ROBERT THURLOW WAS A LEATHER CUTTER AND CURRIER BUT LATER HE BECAME THE OWNER OF THE WEAR BREWERY FRAMWELLGATE WATERSIDE

RE: RE: FAMILY TREE
When I was about 3 yrs old, I remember visiting my mum who worked in a cafe called The Nook which was about in the bottom right hand corner of this photo. On the opposite side just out of the picture was a stationery shop and a book binders, I think it was a family firm called Bailes. The thing I loved about Durham was the old medevil passage ways that ran behind silver street at the base of the castle walls, in the 50's and 60's they a lot cleaner than now. It was always like running the gauntlett though with the traffic and buses using this road.
