More about this scene
This is perhaps the most famous, and most expensive, public school in the North East. Quite early in the 19th century the University of Durham began offering places to those without means. Hatfield College opened in 1846. Its poor students were provided with furnished rooms, and meals that were taken communally; alien concepts to the well-heeled of Oxford and Cambridge.
