More about this scene

This photograph has a seaside look about it, and it is a breezy and sunny day. The far distant houses are built on the sand hills, and would get the full force of any gales. All that was needed is here: the petrol station is on the left, and on the right Rose's Stores. They would have supplied everything, including Wills Star cigarettes and Coca Cola, according to the advertisements outside.

The House Called Beverley And The 1953 Spring Tide
My father built the square flat roofed house called Beverley on the sand dunes in the late 1920s next to the bungalow by the creek. It has since had two refurbishments, the first of which included a conventional roof. I visited the house with my grandfather following the 1953 disastrous high tide. Harrisons Store
I spent the whole of the school summer holidays working on Manor Farm at Anderby from 1947 to 1951. Each evening and all weekends were spent at Anderby creek with Harrisons Stores as base. Bob Harrison used to get me a weekly supply of cigarettes which were kept behind the counter and collected on Saturday (Pay Day!) Harrison's Store
The store with the petrol pumps in this photograph was owned from at leat the early 1950s to the late 70's by a couple, originally from Leicester, called Bob and Grace Harrison. In the season, opening hours were around 6am to 11pm, and the store sold just about everything.

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
