Beer, The Village 1898

More about this scene
As with so many East Devon villages, a tiny stream - the Beer Brook - runs down the main street, first on one side of the road and then on the other. In the foreground is a water pump, made of the local Beer stone. Little has changed in more than a century, though the cottages just past Northcott's shop (left) are no longer thatched.
