More about this scene
Here we see St Michael's Church topped by its original spire (centre right). The spire was removed in 1962 after being weakened first by an exploding mine out at sea, and then by a lightning strike, leaving only the square-topped tower that we can see today. In the foreground is the Beach House Hotel, now Beach Court (left), with the Marine Snack Bar on the opposite side of the road.
