A Memory of Borehamwood.

I lived in Caishowe Road in 1948.My Grandparentslived in Edulf road and I used to visit them every school day on my way home. The 'village' as it was known then had a Cafe called Hanson s..Does anyone remember? They had the best icecream. It was a family run business. My father used to work at Keystones near the shop. We lived in Borehamwood for 19 years.

Oh yes, I remember Hanson’s, I used to sneak down to the village with my friend, and go in Hanson’s for a ice cream float, it was so delicious. I moved to Borehamwood when I was 2, in 1951, we lived in Arundel Drive, I went to Summerswood school, and Holmshill.
I remember Hansons very well, down a little alleyway next to the garage. When we moved to Borehamwood the signs coming off the A1 used to read Boreham Wiood but after a few years they were replaced by Borehamwood, which I never liked. We moved from Paddington, London when I was quiote young, about 6 or 7, I think. Went to Holmshill and it was a long trek from the top of Cowley Hill, sad that it's a housing estate now. Had great memories of all the film sets next door at MGM. Moved away when I got married but the family stayed.
Although my family moved from Ladbroke Grove to Boreham Wood in 1952 nearly 70 years ago it wasn't until the 1970s when I started my own family that we got to know Hanson's we use take our children every Saturday lunchtime down to 'Hanson's Tea Rooms' where they were treated to their lovely and delicious 'Sausage Rolls!' and Ice-cream. Many years later I became great friends with Mary Hanson who was the daughter, of Bert. After a long illness she sadly she passed away on 11 April 2020. It was a pleasure to have known her. R.I.P.
I remember Hansons and going there with my mum, who lived in Borehamwood in the 30's, having ice cream and Tizer. I too went to Furzehill and Holmshill Schools.
I couldn't remember the café's name now but I went out with a Borehamwood girl who lived in Hertfordse Road Borehamwood during the hot summer of '76 and we regularly went in there as 18 year olds. I remember thinking how nice the place was because we didn't have anything like it in my native Hatfield! Unfortunately our romance didn't last but I can still reminisce over those wonderful ice cream floats during that mega-hot summer....sigh!
