More about this scene
This photograph was taken from the corner of Caroline Street and Queen Street. Davies's Buildings containing the post office was built in 1892 on the site of the Mackworth Arms (demolished 1890/91). The new cottage hospital, pre-dating this photograph by three years, stands at the top of the street. We can just see the entrance to Caroline Street's first market half way up the street on the right.
